Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
Jallianwala Bagh Massacre took place at Amritsar on April 13, 1919, when British troops opened fire on a large group of unarmed Indian protesters in Punjab.
Punjab is a state bordering Pakistan, its the heart of Indian Sikh community. The city of Amritsar, founded in the 1570s by Sikh Guru Ram Das is the site of Harmandir Sahib, the holiest Gurdwara i.e. Sikh place of worship. Also known as the Golden Temple and surrounded by the Pool of Nectar, its a major pilgrimage site. Also in Amritsar is Durgiana Temple, a Hindu shrine famed for its engraved silver doors.
